Review of the 4th Symposium on Sustainable Healthcare in Locarno
Locarno, 9 August 2025 - The 4th Symposium on Sustainable Healthcare took place as part of the 78th Locarno Film Festival. Organised by Swiss Medical Network, the event was dedicated to key questions about the future of the healthcare system in Switzerland, with a particular focus on sustainability, cross-sector collaboration and innovative care models.
Interdisciplinary dialogue at the heart of
The symposium brought together leading representatives from politics, healthcare, science, research, business and culture. The aim was to promote cross-sector dialogue and discuss concrete solutions to the structural challenges facing the healthcare system.
The 200 or so participants were treated to a varied programme consisting of:
- Expert keynotes on digitalisation, care models and prevention
- Presentations of innovative projects from the field (e.g. VIVA Health, PID HUG, Swiss KIS)
- Two moderated panel discussions with representatives from Visana, comparis.ch, SWICA, Baden Cantonal Hospital, Hôpital du Valais, Well and many more
- Insights into current research activities at Swiss Medical Network, including the development of personalised vaccines against cancer
Key findings
It was clear from all the contributions:
- Sustainable healthcare requires networked collaboration across sector boundaries
- Digital solutions play a key role in efficiency and patient-orientation
- Health literacy and education are decisive levers for long-term system relief
- Research and foundations such as the Genolier Foundation make important contributions to the further development of the healthcare system
